Association of Hong Kong Nursing Staff (AHKNS),
previously named as Association of Government Nursing Staff,
was founded in 1977 by nursing staff on voluntary basis as a
non-profit making nursing organization. The Association is registered
under the Trade Unions Ordinance with the objectives to:

improve the quality of health care services
in Hong Kong; |

advocate clients' rights. |
Our members comprise of nurses in different grades including
Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse, Nurse Educator, Inoculator,
Health Auxiliary and Midwife.. They are currently employed
by various institutions such as Hospital Authority, Department
of Health, Social Welfare Department, private hospitals, volunteer
groups, etc.
With the support of nursing colleagues, AHKNS is currently
the premier nursing organization in Hong Kong with around 23,000
members.

AHKNS Structure

The Association is operated in accordance with the constitutions
of AHKNS. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is the forum
with supreme authority of the Association. It is formed
with the membership of Grade/ Hospital Representatives.
The Government of the Association is vested in the Executive
Committee which consists of at least 20 but more than
26 executive committee members to be elected from among
the Grade/Hospital Representatives at the Annual General
Meeting by nomination and secret ballot.
The Executive Committee is divided into three functional
branches: Operations & Finance Committee, Industrial
& Public Relation Committee and Professional Development
& Continuing Education Committee. They are responsible

The Association always strives for protecting our nurses'
terms of employment and working conditions, promoting
staff relations and communication.
Apart from concerning development of health care structure
and giving opinions on health care policy, we endeavor
promoting the concepts of professionalization by self-empowerment
and personal developement. In addition, our academic department
organizes courses periodically and establishes information
counter for our members to enrich scope of knowledge.
As a considerate union, we do understand the needs of
our members. We provide our members with free consultation
on labour and legal issues as well as management of complaints
services. Our academic, welfare, insurance and travel
departments provide more added services to our member.
We are also active in participating social activities
through volunteer groups to help the people in need.
